So what’s going on recently with BRES? It’s been kinda quiet. Honestly, we’ve just been too busy to sit down and write.
Our fabulous volunteers hosted 4 concession stands last fall at GHPEC (we did 5 the previous spring).
In September Tom Stanley, Rockingham County Extension Service, spoke at an education meeting. Our year end event at Parkway in December was enjoyable and brought in a another trunk load of supplies for the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue – thank you again everyone who donated. We donated some blankets to rescues in needs, both used and new.
2026… we have decided to scale back a bit this spring. After a nasty winter, our first event is Education Saturday this Saturday, March 8th with Amanda Lorreti from Charisma’s Landing. The 4th Annual Tack Sale is coming up on the 28th of March. In April, we will be supporting the Roanoke Valley Pony Club at their Spring Frolic by covering concessions yet again… we feed their volunteers too, they do a lot with a little and we’re glad to help out. Our Mindful Monday at the Town Center Tap House is also in April. Look for a social in June, most likely at a local winery.
We’ve been able to raise and donate close to $8,500 across 24 organizations since our start in 2022. Supporting those that support others was a huge part of why I started this organization and it is what continues to drive me forward, that and education. Watch our calendar as it will grow as the year moves on. I hope to work with The Virginia Partnership for Horses this fall, they are doing amazing work to help equine in Virginia. Animal welfare should be important to all of us. Making sure rescues have funds for the basics including castration and euthanasia is critical. Keeping equine has become increasingly expensive and owner surrender is putting a massive strain on our rescues and sanctuaries. While I can’t do a lot on my own, I know together we can make a big difference… we already have. I look forward to seeing you soon…
